Ireland

7 November 2008
Dublin, Ireland

After we were stamped into Ireland we made our way through customs and immigration.  Then we caught a bus into the downtown area.  Thankfully our hostel was around the corner from the bus stop.  Once we were checked in we decided to check out Dublin.
Dublin seemed nice enough; the biggest bonus was that it was the first English speaking country we’d been in since Australia about 7 months ago.  The city is split by the Liffey River and provides some scenic views of the city along it.  After exploring for awhile we decided to find a nice restaurant for our last dinner abroad.  Once our stomachs were full we decided the best way to take in Irish culture is to do it one pint at a time inside a pub.  We found a nice pub, order our beers and sat and talked.  The funny thing is that even after traveling around the world with each other for 11 months now, we still had some fresh stories for each other.  It was a great finish for our last night overseas.

The both of us woke up to some serious snoring.  Since we had crossed over another time zone we woke up kind of early.  The room we were in was a four-person dorm.  So we got up, and tried to get ready for the day quietly, not to wake our roommates.  Right as we left the room to go to the common room to check internet, we were surprised to see the two snorers were girls.  It was amazing that these two girls could snore so loud.
In the common room we hung out for a short while checking internet.  The hostel had a free breakfast, but it consisted of old bread and some cereal.  We decided to get something while we walked around the city.  Our flight didn’t leave until 4:00 that afternoon.  So we had some time to check out the city.
Once we checked out of the room, and stored our bags, it was out to the city.  It was still a little early, and the streets were bare for a while.  Doug suggested we go to a bagel restaurant for breakfast.  The food wasn’t too bad, nor was the coffee.  We were both expecting our food to be much better, but this is how it goes sometimes.
Walking around the wind picked up whenever the tall buildings didn’t block it.  One thing we had going for us was the sky was a bright blue.  This was nice being we were leaving today.  If it was raining we would have had to sit inside for our last day of international travel.  We did some last minute souvenir shopping before heading back to the hostel.
One thing this hostel did have going for it was the free shuttle to the airport.  This is something we didn’t take advantage of the day before.  The shuttle was ready to leave promptly at 1:00, and we arrived at the airport about 30 minutes later.
At the airport we checked in, and went through security.  We went to the gate and waited for our turn to board the plane, it would be in about an hour and a half.
